DIVERSIFY YOUR WORKFORCE – The benefits of hiring talent with disabilities!
Washington Vocational Services has been supporting choice, inclusion, and empowerment clients since May 3, 1976. The purpose of the agency was and continues to be assisting persons who have disabilities succeed in the workplace. With the assistance of Edmonds Community College, funding was secured that allowed Washington Vocational Services to move into our first location in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. They currently service communities in the Puget Sound region from Vancouver to the Canadian border.
They are engaged in communities they serve through memberships in Economic Alliance Snohomish County, Economic Development Association of Skagit County and Community Employment Alliance.
The Board of Directors and dedicated, well-trained staff have assisted well over 4,000 people in their skill development and search for integrated employment. The primary funding is provided by Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration, and our Social Enterprise business: Auntie Anne’s Hand Rolled Pretzels at the Seattle Premium Outlets http://www.wvs.org/ .

Janet Bruckshen, WVS Executive Director, is quoted in the Washington Post in their article focusing on employment for persons with disabilities. Advocates say the labor shortage, coupled with growing openness to workers with mental and physical limitations, has brought record numbers of people with disabilities into the workforce — and it has also pushed employers to adopt more inclusive practices to support the new hires, such as longer and more hands-on training.
